Our Legacy of Craftsmanship

Founded in Bath by master slater Pierre Leclerc, Heritage Slate Artisans bridges centuries-old French technique with Britain’s stringent conservation standards. Pierre’s great-grandfather first split slate in Aveyron in 1892; today that knowledge lives on in every tile we lay.

We work exclusively with Lauze phyllite—an exceptionally dense, low-porosity stone renowned for its deep charcoal sheen. Each tile is split and shaped by hand, then fixed using copper nails and breathable lime mortar so the roof can flex with seasonal change and endure well beyond a century.
