TL;DR: One UI 9 (Android 17) is live and rolling out in waves. The Galaxy S26 series has it in the US, UK and most major markets. S25 / Z Fold7 / Z Flip7 are rolling out in the US and Europe. S24 / Z Fold6 / Z Flip6 started in Korea on October 6 and reached US carriers and Europe around October 12. S23 / Z Fold5 / Z Flip5 began in South Korea on October 14; US and UK units are still waiting. The Galaxy S22 series is not eligible. For the S23, One UI 9 is the fourth and final major OS upgrade Samsung promised.

Last updated: October 16, 2026. Facts checked against Samsung’s Global Newsroom One UI 9 rollout post, Samsung US How to upgrade to One UI 9, Samsung UK Newsroom, Samsung Japan’s per-model timetable (via AndroidHire), live build trackers at SamUpdater and SammyGuru, plus reporting from 9to5Google, Android Authority and PhoneArena. We’ll update this when the US/UK S23 wave starts or Samsung publishes a new official timetable.

If you own a Galaxy phone, the useful question right now is not “is One UI 9 out?” — it is. The useful question is when your exact model, region and carrier get it. Samsung does not publish one worldwide calendar. It ships by wave, then by country, then by carrier, which is why two identical phones can be weeks apart. This page is a US- and UK-first schedule of what has actually shipped as of October 16, 2026, plus who is eligible, what is new, and how to install it.

What is the One UI 9 update schedule right now?

One UI 9 is rolling out in five main waves. Newer flagships go first; mid-range phones and tablets come later. Exact US and UK dates still vary by carrier.

Wave Devices First stable (Korea) US / UK status (Oct 16, 2026)
0 (out of the box) Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, Z Flip8; S26 FE; Tab S12 series July 2026 (foldables) Already on One UI 9
1 Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra Sep 16, 2026 Live in US (from Sep 23) and Europe/UK (from ~Sep 29)
2 S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra / S25 FE / S25 Edge; Z Fold7 / Z Flip7 / Z Flip7 FE Sep 28, 2026 Live in US (from ~Oct 2–5) and UK/Europe (from Oct 6)
3 S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra / S24 FE; Z Fold6 / Z Flip6 Oct 6, 2026 US carriers and Europe starting ~Oct 12; still rolling
4 S23 / S23+ / S23 Ultra; Z Fold5 / Z Flip5; early A-series (A57, A37, A36, A27) Oct 14, 2026 (S23 / Fold5 / Flip5) Korea only so far; US/UK not yet

Samsung’s Global Newsroom confirmed the S26 wave on September 16, 2026, and said One UI 9 would “gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.” It did not publish per-model US or UK dates. The Thailand and Japan market pages are the only official calendars with named windows; everything else below is built from those pages plus live firmware trackers.

When did each Galaxy series get One UI 9?

The Galaxy S26 series went first, then S25 and last year’s foldables, then S24, then S23. Each wave usually reaches a US carrier four to seven days after Korea, based on the first three waves so far.

Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra

Samsung started stable One UI 9 on the S26 series in South Korea on September 16, 2026. In the US, SammyGuru and SamUpdater show T-Mobile first on September 23, unlocked and Verizon on September 28, with Europe/UK around September 29. Most US and UK S26 units should have it by now — run a manual check if yours still does not.

Galaxy S25 series, Z Fold7 and Z Flip7

Samsung Thailand listed September 28 for the S25 series and Z Fold7 / Z Flip7, and Korea matched that date. In the US, Android Authority reported the update reaching S25 and Fold7 / Flip7 models in early October, with unlocked and more carrier builds on October 5. SammyGuru puts India, the UK and other European countries on October 6, starting with beta users. S25 FE and S25 Edge are in the same wave in Korea and the US.

Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold6 and Z Flip6

Korea started the S24 wave on October 6. Europe and India followed around October 12. SamUpdater (last checked October 16) lists US AT&T and T-Mobile builds for the S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra on October 12, with S24 FE unlocked on October 13. Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 follow the same window: Korea October 6, US from October 12, Europe and India from October 13. If your S24 still says it is up to date, check again over the next few days — staged carrier batches are normal.

Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5

Stable One UI 9 reached the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra in South Korea on October 14, 2026, starting with beta users, according to AndroidHire, Android Authority and SamUpdater. Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 started the same day in Korea. US and UK models had not received it as of October 16.

Earlier One UI 9 waves crossed from Korea to a first US carrier in four to seven days. That pattern points to roughly October 18–21 for US S23 units, but Samsung has not confirmed a date. Samsung Japan’s official timetable (summarized by AndroidHire) lists Japanese carrier S23 Ultra / S23 and Fold5 / Flip5 for early to mid-November, which is a useful outer bound rather than a US forecast — Japan has been running behind the US on earlier waves.

The Galaxy S23 FE is on a separate, later track. It was not in the October 14 Korea release. Samsung Thailand moved its window from October to “later this year,” and Samsung Japan lists KDDI S23 FE for mid-January 2027.

Which Galaxy phones get One UI 9?

Eligible phones start at the Galaxy S23 series. Foldables from Z Fold5 / Z Flip5 onward qualify. Selected Galaxy A models and Tab S9 and newer tablets are on the list. The Galaxy S22 series is not eligible.

Samsung’s own Privacy Alerts footnote in the Global Newsroom post names supported devices including S26 / S25 / S24 / S23 (and FE variants), Z Fold8 through Fold5 and Flip8 through Flip5, plus Tab S11 / S10 / S9 Ultra and Plus / S9. That list is not every eligible phone, but it is the clearest official confirmation that support stops before the S22 generation.

Family One UI 9? Notes
Galaxy S26 / S26+ / S26 Ultra / S26 FE Yes S26 FE ships with it
Galaxy S25 / S25+ / S25 Ultra / S25 FE / S25 Edge Yes Rolling out
Galaxy S24 / S24+ / S24 Ultra / S24 FE Yes Rolling out
Galaxy S23 / S23+ / S23 Ultra / S23 FE Yes S23 FE later than the rest
Galaxy S22 / S22+ / S22 Ultra No Topped out on One UI 8
Z Fold8 / Flip8 (and Ultra) Yes Shipped with One UI 9
Z Fold7 / Flip7 / Flip7 FE / TriFold Yes Rolling out
Z Fold6 / Flip6 Yes Rolling out
Z Fold5 / Flip5 Yes Korea started Oct 14
Z Fold4 / Flip4 No Not eligible
Select Galaxy A (A57, A56, A55, A37, A36, A35 and others) Yes (select) A57 / A37 / A36 / A27 already starting
Tab S12 / S11 / S10 / S9 series Yes (select) S12 ships with it; older tabs still waiting

PhoneArena’s supported-devices table and SammyGuru’s tracker both treat the S22 line and Z Fold4 / Flip4 as end-of-major-OS. If your model is missing from every official and tracker list, assume it will stay on One UI 8 and keep getting security patches only for as long as Samsung’s original promise covers.

Is One UI 9 the last update for the Galaxy S23?

Yes — One UI 9 is the fourth and final major OS upgrade Samsung promised for the Galaxy S23, S23+, S23 Ultra and S23 FE. Security updates continue after that, into the fifth year (through early 2028 on Samsung’s original promise), but there is no Android 18 / One UI 10 planned for these phones.

The S23 series launched in February 2023 on Android 13 / One UI 5.1 with a promise of four major OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Android 14, 15, 16 and now 17 fill that OS quota. PhoneArena reported Samsung confirmation that One UI 9 is the last major update for the S23 FE, and the same four-upgrade ceiling applies to the rest of the S23 family. By contrast, the Galaxy S24 and newer flagships sit under Samsung’s later seven-year OS and security policy — one reason an S23 owner and an S24 owner bought only months apart but face very different remaining runways.

If you are on an S23 and care about future major OS versions, One UI 9 is the moment to plan your next phone. If you mainly want security patches and a still-capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device, you can stay put through the remaining security window.

What is new in One UI 9?

One UI 9 is an Android 17 update with more Galaxy AI, a more flexible Quick Panel, stronger privacy alerts, and a Warranty and Care hub in Settings. Feature availability varies by model; not every S26 AI tool lands on an S23.

From Samsung’s Newsroom and the S26 changelog reported by 9to5Google:

  • My FanCam — pick a person in a video and keep them centered while the clip is reframed.
  • Now Nudge / Now Brief — more context-aware suggestions, plus editable daily brief cards.
  • Warranty and Care — warranty status, diagnostics and Care+ / repair booking inside Settings.
  • More customizable Quick Panel — rearrange controls; resize brightness, volume and media player.
  • Privacy Alerts and Security Brief — on-device AI flags risky permissions and unknown-source apps; a blue location indicator when an app uses your location.
  • Interpreter Thread View, clearer Voice Recorder summaries, better Document Scan, Samsung Health redesign, DeX improvements and Text Spotlight accessibility.

Samsung’s footnotes stress that Galaxy AI features need a Samsung Account, and that availability varies by country, language and device. Treat marketing lists as a ceiling, not a guarantee for every eligible phone.

How do you check for the One UI 9 update?

Open Settings → Software update → Download and install (or Check for updates). If One UI 9 is staged for your model and carrier, it will appear there. Back up first and leave several gigabytes free — US packages in earlier waves were close to 4 GB when upgrading from One UI 8.5, while Korea beta-to-stable packages were only a few hundred MB.

Samsung’s US support page (ANS10013398) gives the same path: Quick settings → Settings → Software update → Check for updates. After install, the in-device user manual has a What’s new in One UI 9 section.

Practical tips: back up under Settings → Accounts and backup, charge above 50%, stay on Wi-Fi, and re-check for a few days after your region goes live — Samsung stages batches. If you were on the One UI 9 beta, opt out in Samsung Members to pull the stable build as a small OTA. Skip unofficial Odin flashes unless you know your exact model and CSC.

Should you install One UI 9 when it arrives?

Yes, once your model and carrier show the update — especially on an S23, where this is the last major OS upgrade. Back up first. If you need rock-solid stability for travel or work the same day your carrier’s first reports appear, wait 48 hours for early bugs to surface. Samsung is already stacking monthly security patches on top of One UI 9 for devices that got it first.

FAQ

When will my Galaxy get One UI 9 in the US or UK?

It depends on the wave. S26 is already live in both markets. S25 / Z Fold7 / Z Flip7 are rolling out in the US and UK. S24 / Z Fold6 / Z Flip6 started reaching US carriers and Europe around October 12. S23 / Z Fold5 / Z Flip5 started in Korea on October 14 and had not reached US or UK units as of October 16. Check Settings → Software update.

Is One UI 9 out for the Galaxy S25 Ultra?

Yes. Stable One UI 9 based on Android 17 started for the S25 series in South Korea on September 28, 2026, reached US unlocked and carrier models around October 5, and hit the UK and other European countries around October 6. Availability can still vary by carrier batch.

Is One UI 9 out for the Galaxy S24 Ultra?

It is rolling out. Korea started October 6; Europe and India followed around October 12. SamUpdater lists US AT&T and T-Mobile S24 Ultra builds from October 12, 2026. If your unit still does not see it, keep checking — staged carrier releases are normal.

When will the Galaxy S23 get One UI 9 in the US?

Samsung has not announced a US date. Korea started October 14, 2026. The first three One UI 9 waves reached a US carrier four to seven days after Korea, which would imply roughly October 18–21 if the pattern holds. That is an estimate, not a confirmation.

Is the Galaxy S22 getting One UI 9?

No. The Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra are not eligible for One UI 9. They topped out on One UI 8. The same applies to Z Fold4 and Z Flip4.

Is One UI 9 the last update for the Galaxy S23?

Yes for major OS upgrades. One UI 9 (Android 17) is the fourth and final major OS version in Samsung’s original S23 promise. Security patches continue into the fifth year (through early 2028 on that promise), but there is no further Android major upgrade planned for the S23 family.

How do I install One UI 9 on my Galaxy phone?

Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install (or Check for updates). Back up first, stay on Wi-Fi, and keep several gigabytes free. After install, open the device user manual and tap What’s new in One UI 9 for the feature walkthrough.
