ChatGPT Pro $100 vs $200 vs $500: Which Tier Do You Need?

TL;DR: ChatGPT Pro now comes in three monthly tiers: Pro 100 ($100), Pro 200 ($200) and Pro 500 ($500). In ChatGPT Work and Codex they give roughly 5x, 10x and 25x the Plus allowance, which works out to the same $20 per Plus-sized allowance on every tier. Only Pro 500 gets GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast. If you were on the old Pro 200, you keep its 20x allowance through October 29, 2026, then drop to 10x at the same price. For most people who outgrow Plus, Pro 100 is the right first step.

Last updated: October 7, 2026. Prices and plan rules checked against OpenAI’s Help Center, its Codex pricing docs and the US and UK App Store listings. TrustLoud hasn’t run these plans side by side; this is a researched comparison of published terms.

OpenAI split ChatGPT Pro into three tiers at DevDay on September 29, 2026, and the naming has confused a lot of buyers. “Pro 200” used to mean 20 times Plus usage. For new subscribers it now means 10 times, and existing subscribers lose the old allowance after October 29.

This guide compares ChatGPT Pro 100 vs 200 vs 500 on price, usage, speed and UK pricing, explains the October 29 change, and gives a straight answer on which tier fits which kind of user. If you’re still catching up on OpenAI’s model names, our GPT-5.5 retirement guide explains what GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and Luna are.

What’s the difference between ChatGPT Pro 100, 200 and 500?

The three ChatGPT Pro tiers differ mainly in how much usage you get, not in features. Pro 100 gives about 5x the Plus allowance, Pro 200 about 10x, and Pro 500 about 25x plus Astra Ultrafast. All three are billed monthly, include Pro reasoning and Codex, and have no five-hour limit.

OpenAI’s About ChatGPT Pro tiers page lists the prices and says only that “Pro 200 includes more usage than Pro 100. Pro 500 offers the highest included usage of the three plans.” The multiples come from a mix of OpenAI and reporting, so here’s where each one comes from:

  • Pro 500, 25x: OpenAI’s own DevDay announcement on September 29, 2026 called it “a new plan with our highest usage limits (25x Plus) and access to Ultrafast.”
  • Pro 200, 10x: Engadget reported that Codex and Work usage on the $200 plan falls “from 20x of what the company offers to Plus users, down to 10x,” and that GPT-6 Pro messages in Chat fall from 200 to 100 a week. OpenAI’s Help Center confirms a “lower usage allowance” but doesn’t print the number.
  • Pro 100, 5x: OpenAI’s pricing page described Pro as “5x or 20x more usage” before DevDay, and reporting since DevDay still puts the $100 tier at 5x. OpenAI’s current pages don’t list it.
Pro 100 Pro 200 Pro 500
US price (monthly) $100 $200 $500
UK App Store price £88.90 £200.00 £444.99
Work and Codex usage vs Plus ~5x ~10x (20x for grandfathered users until Oct 29) 25x
GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast No No Yes
Five-hour limit None None None
First dot (always-on agent) Yes, outside UK/EEA/Switzerland Yes, outside UK/EEA/Switzerland Yes, outside UK/EEA/Switzerland
Annual billing No No No

Is ChatGPT Pro 100 vs 200 better value?

No. In the US, ChatGPT Pro 100 and Pro 200 cost exactly the same per unit of usage: $20 for each Plus-sized allowance, the same rate as Plus itself. Pro 200 just gives you twice the room for twice the price. Value only differs for grandfathered Pro 200 users and for UK buyers.

The maths is simple. Divide each US price by its multiple:

Plan US price Usage vs Plus Cost per Plus-sized allowance
Plus $20 1x $20
Pro 100 $100 5x $20
Pro 200 (new) $200 10x $20
Pro 200 (grandfathered, until Oct 29) $200 20x $10
Pro 500 $500 25x $20

So there’s no volume discount any more. The old Pro 200 was the only plan that halved the price per unit, and that ends on October 29. The practical rule that follows: buy the smallest tier you don’t keep running out on. Going bigger buys headroom, not savings.

How much is ChatGPT Pro in the UK?

ChatGPT Pro in the UK costs £88.90 for Pro 100, £200.00 for Pro 200 and £444.99 for Pro 500 a month through Apple’s UK App Store, VAT included. Web checkout is also charged in pounds; check the final figure on chatgpt.com before you pay, as OpenAI sets local prices separately.

Those UK prices change the value picture. Pro 200 costs the same number of pounds as US dollars, while Pro 100 and Pro 500 are noticeably cheaper than a straight conversion. Using the App Store prices:

  • Plus: £19.99 for 1x, so about £20 per allowance.
  • Pro 100: £88.90 for 5x, about £17.78 per allowance.
  • Pro 200: £200.00 for 10x, £20.00 per allowance.
  • Pro 500: £444.99 for 25x, about £17.80 per allowance.

For UK buyers, Pro 200 is the worst deal per unit of the three. If Pro 100 isn’t quite enough, it’s worth asking whether buying credits on top of Pro 100 covers your bad weeks more cheaply than doubling up.

One more UK catch: dots, OpenAI’s always-on agents, aren’t available on personal Pro plans in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland at any tier. Our guide to OpenAI dots in the UK and EU covers the Business Premium workaround.

What happens to Pro 200 after October 29?

If you had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from September 22, 2026 to 10 a.m. PT on September 29, 2026, you keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026. After that, OpenAI moves you to the lower allowance. Your price stays at $200 a month, and your plan doesn’t change.

OpenAI’s Help Center spells out the rules:

  1. Grandfathering is automatic. Eligible customers “can use the previous included allowance through October 29, 2026 while their Pro 200 subscription is active.”
  2. It’s not an upgrade. “Keeping your current allowance does not upgrade your plan or add Ultrafast.”
  3. Re-subscribing still counts if you were active during the eligibility window, but a subscription outside that window gets the new allowance.
  4. Only affected users get an email with the details.

Engadget also reported that existing subscribers will “receive a one-time credit” to soften the change. If you’re on the old Pro 200, look at your usage in Settings → Usage before the end of October. If you’ve been using less than half of your 20x allowance, the new 10x Pro 200 will feel the same. If you’ve been using under a quarter of it, Pro 100 would cover you for $100 less.

Is Pro 500 worth it for Ultrafast?

Pro 500 is worth it only if waiting on GPT-6 Astra costs you real money. Ultrafast generates tokens up to 8x faster, but it also uses your included allowance 8x faster. Spent entirely on Ultrafast, Pro 500’s 25x allowance covers about the same work as three Plus allowances at Standard speed.

OpenAI says Ultrafast offers “up to 8x faster token generation (300 tokens per second) in Codex.” The Help Center is equally clear about the cost: compared with Standard mode, Fast mode uses your allowance “at 2.5 times the rate, and GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast uses it at 8 times the rate.”

Some quick, published-number maths:

  • Pro 500 on Ultrafast only: 25x ÷ 8 ≈ 3.1x Plus-worth of Standard Astra work per month.
  • Pro 500 on Standard only: the full 25x.
  • Pro 100 on Fast mode only: 5x ÷ 2.5 = 2x.

In practice that means Pro 500 is for people who mix the two: Standard for long background jobs, Ultrafast when someone is sitting there waiting. Among Pro tiers, Ultrafast is Pro 500 only, and OpenAI says buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 “does not unlock Ultrafast.”

What do all ChatGPT Pro tiers include?

Every ChatGPT Pro tier includes Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra, Codex and ChatGPT Work with no five-hour limit, deep research, image creation, memory and file uploads. The tiers share features and differ in how much usage you get and whether Ultrafast is on.

OpenAI’s Codex pricing docs say “Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit,” and OpenAI’s DevDay post committed to “not reintroducing the 5hr limit so that you can fully use your weekly usage when you want.” That’s a real difference from Plus, where OpenAI estimates 15 to 160 local GPT-6.1 Sol messages, or 5 to 45 GPT-6 Astra messages, per five-hour window.

A weekly allowance still applies on Pro. When you run out, the docs say Plus and Pro users “can purchase additional credits to continue working without needing to upgrade.” In the US App Store, credits cost $4 for 100, or 4 cents each. Credits cover Codex, ChatGPT Work and the Office add-ins, but OpenAI notes they “do not provide additional usage for every ChatGPT model or feature.”

Which ChatGPT Pro tier should you buy?

Most people who keep hitting Plus limits should start on Pro 100. Move to Pro 200 only if you run out on Pro 100 most weeks, and to Pro 500 only if you need Ultrafast or more than 10x. Since Pro is billed monthly with no annual plan, you can switch tiers as your usage changes.

If you… Pick Why
Mostly chat and hit Plus limits now and then Plus ($20) or Pro 100 Pro 100 removes the five-hour cap for 5x the price
Use Codex or Work daily and run out on Plus Pro 100 ($100) Smallest step up at the same $20-per-allowance rate
Regularly exhaust Pro 100 by midweek Pro 200 ($200) Twice the room, same unit price in the US
Run agents for hours or lose money waiting on Astra Pro 500 ($500) Only tier with Ultrafast, and the largest allowance
Are grandfathered on old Pro 200 Stay until Oct 29, then review 20x for $200 is the best rate OpenAI sells until then
Run unattended automation or CI API key OpenAI’s docs point automation at API billing

You change tiers under Settings → My Plan. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, you cancel or change through that store, not on chatgpt.com.

Verdict

ChatGPT Pro 100 vs 200 isn’t a value question in the US any more: both cost $20 per Plus-sized allowance, so the right answer is whichever one you don’t run out on. Start with Pro 100. Step up to Pro 200 only after you’ve hit the Pro 100 limit for a few weeks running. Pro 500 is a specialist plan for people who’ll actually use Ultrafast. In the UK, Pro 100 and Pro 500 are better value per pound than Pro 200. And if you’re grandfathered on the old Pro 200, enjoy the 20x until October 29, then check your usage dashboard before your next renewal.

FAQ

What’s the difference between ChatGPT Pro 100 and Pro 200?

Pro 200 gives about twice the Work and Codex usage of Pro 100: roughly 10x Plus against 5x, for twice the price. Neither includes Ultrafast, and both have no five-hour limit.

Is ChatGPT Pro worth $100?

ChatGPT Pro 100 is worth it if you hit Plus limits often or use Codex daily. It gives about five times the Plus allowance with no five-hour cap. If you rarely hit Plus limits, Plus at $20 is enough.

What happens to my 20x Pro 200 limits after October 29?

Eligible Pro 200 subscribers keep the old allowance through October 29, 2026, then move to the lower allowance, reported as 10x Plus. The price stays $200 a month and the plan doesn’t change.

What does 5x or 20x mean on ChatGPT Pro?

The multiple compares the plan’s included Work and Codex usage with ChatGPT Plus. A 5x plan gives about five times the Plus allowance. Actual usage per task still depends on the model, context, tools and speed mode.

Does ChatGPT Pro have annual billing?

No. OpenAI says ChatGPT Pro is billed monthly only, and annual billing or paying several months in advance isn’t available.

Can I get ChatGPT Pro dots in the UK?

No. OpenAI’s first dot comes with Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500 only for users outside the UK, the EEA and Switzerland. UK users can get dots through a ChatGPT Business Premium seat.
